European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EFORT) was founded in 1993 by Prof. Michael Freeman and Prof. Jacques Duparc.
At present the federation gathers national orthopaedic associations from 37 countries, covering 35 000 orthopaedic surgeons from the whole Europe. Under EFORT umbrella there are 17 specialty societies like: European Hip Society, Spine Society of Europe and many others. Currently the President of EFORT is Prof. Nikolaus Böhler, Vice- President is Prof. George Bentley and a Treasurer is Prof. Wolfhart Puhl.
